As a whole, Gas Operations is responsible for all aspects of PG&E's gas distribution and transmission operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, restoration and emergency response.
This position is located within the Gas Transmission and Distribution Organization (GT&D). GT&D is responsible for maintaining and operating over 6,000 miles of gas transmission pipelines throughout California. Pipeline Safety Legislation has mandated the company to inspect over 1000 miles of High Consequence Area (HCA) gas transmission pipeline. Additionally, new legislation focused on distribution systems requires PG&E to reduce the risk of operating its 40,000 miles of distribution pipeline. The Integrity Management department within Gas Engineering is responsible for the overall administration and implementation of the transmission integrity management program and the evaluation of overall risk to our gas transmission and distribution system. This includes overseeing the completion of integrity management assessments, identifying High Consequence Areas (HCA), maintaining PG&E's base assessment plan as required by CFR 49 Subpart O, and the development and maintenance integrity management performance metrics. Groups within the Integrity Management department are Direct Assessment, In-line Inspection (ILI), Risk Management, and Operator Qualification.Position SummaryThe Integrity Management Direct Assessment Engineer is a critical position within the integrity management (IM) team which ensures PG&E maintains safe and reliable pipelines which comply with federal regulations. PG&E's gas transmission pipeline system contains significant mileage within high consequence areas (HCA) which needs to be inspected to ensure pipeline integrity and compliance. The Integrity Management Direct Assessment Engineer is responsible for providing engineering support for projects for the three Direct Assessment (DA) inspection programs. The DA inspection program includes implementing external corrosion direct assessment (ECDA), internal corrosion direct assessment (ICDA) and stress corrosion cracking direct assessment (SCCDA). This position contributes toward Gas Safety Excellence goals by improving safety, reliability and affordability for one or more asset families and one or more life cycles.
â?¢ Occasional travel to other offices and client sites for meetings and training â?¢ This is a DOT covered position and is subjected to random drug and alcohol screening *The company is not sponsoring Visas for this position.Qualificationsâ?¢ Minimum Bachelor's degree in Engineering (any) â?¢ Professional Engineer registration â?¢ NACE certified cathodic protection specialist (includes CP4) or corrosion specialist â?¢ 7 years of experience total with a minimum of 4 years in corrosion and 2 years in gas or hydrocarbon liquid integrity management â?¢ Experience in application of NACE recommended practices for direct assessment Responsibilitiesâ?¢ Provides advanced knowledge consultation in pipeline integrity, corrosion control and cathodic protection to other engineers and the gas organization â?¢ Develop business cases in support of strategy or change initiatives â?¢ Develops innovative data solutions to address complex business issues â?¢ Works with and leverages relationships with Directors and Managers across functions / PG&E â?¢ Manages cross-functional projects or initiatives â?¢ Represents PG&E in industry committee settings and help directs PG&Eâ??s role in the greater pipeline integrity community. â?¢ Manages and engineers DA projects, as needed. â?¢ Supports evaluation and application of new technology in order to optimize future developments in terms of cost and operability. â?¢ Supports the development, review & update of procedures, standards and specifications as required. â?¢ Reviews and approves contractorâ??s specifications, procedures and standards â?¢ When needed, specifies needed ongoing assessment/testing activities for long term mitigation and pipeline integrity that will likely be needed before the next assessment.
