Are you interested in learning more about how research happens within physics? The department of Physics and the Center for Nanoscale Science at Penn State hosts a National Science Foundation sponsored REU with two focuses:
The Center for Nanoscale Science REU students conduct research in the nano-scale aspects of condensed matter physics, and materials physics, materials engineering, chemistry, electro-optics , 2D materials and quantum physics.
The Physics REU student research includes all the above AND multimessenger particle astrophysics, atomic and optical physics, dark matter, and gravitational wave physics.
Students are matched with an experimental, or computational research lab and mentor based in their interests, and attend weekly professional development exposing them to cutting edge research, professional development skills, graduate school, careers, and participate in social gatherings and outreach activities
Undergraduate students who have not yet graduated in Summer 2023, are 18 years old, and US citizens are encouraged to apply. Stipend of $6000, free housing, and partial travel reimbursement.
Experience the excitement of physics research across all physics fields. Join a diverse group of students from across the country, learn new science, techniques, and learn the excitement of communicating science to scientists, your peers, and the public. Research spans astrophysics, dark matter, gravitational waves, nanomaterials physics, condensed matter physics, optical physics, materials physics, materials chemistry, 2D materials synthesis, nano-fabrication, simulations, computation and theory.
