Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in science and engineering on behalf of national security. We are seeking a Condensed Matter Scientist to join The Pulsed Field Facility (PFF) at LANL in Los Alamos, NM. The successful candidate will develop in-depth knowledge in pulsed-field experimental physical science and use that knowledge to help scientific users. Candidates will be hired at a Scientist 1 or Scientist 2 level, depending on experience.
Responsibilities:
Contribute to the overall PFF planning and operations, collaboration development and fund raising through proposal submission and program development
Conduct experiments under high magnetic fields and carry them through to completion, including publishing the results in impactful scientific journals
Establish a fully independent research program in high magnetic fields and seek independent funding for research within the laboratory
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field from an accredited college or university
2+ years of related experience (Scientist 1); 4+ years of related experience (Scientist 2)
Ability to collaborate with visiting scientists who are users of the PFF
Record of scientific publication commensurate with experience
Ability and motivation to become an intellectual leader in high magnetic field science
Experience with cryogenic systems and measurements in cryogenic environments
Experience developing, testing or using complex measurement systems for physical science, engineering or a related field
Ability to contribute to a wide range of basic-research and mission-science programs
Desired Qualifications:
Research experience in a relevant field of condensed matter physics, high magnetic fields or pulsed magnetic fields
Experience with novel measurement techniques with potential high impact for pulsed high magnetic field science
Experience with user support at scientific user facilities
Experience initiating scientific projects through collaboration development or proposal process
Experience mentoring junior personnel
