This NSF REU program will give students extensive research experience along with professional training to help them prepare for a variety of career pathways. It includes 8 weeks (June 3 - July 26) of research alongside top scientists in chemistry, physics, biology, and environmental science, intermixed with various aspects of professional advancement including career path options, resume development, on-line self-promotion, interviewing skills with mock interviews, graduate school applications, and industrial careers. The latter will include a 1-day rotation through a startup company to develop a better understanding of small business and professional careers in industry. The program will provide a $6,000 stipend and, for students from outside the greater New Orleans area, housing assistance and some support for travel costs. After the program, funds may be available for students to present their results at national professional meetings around the country. Applications from students in Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Materials Science and Engineering will all be considered.
No prior research experience is necessary. Full-time positions begin June 3, 2024, and end July 26, 2024. A full-time commitment for the ENTIRE summer is a requirement of program participants. Attendance at orientation (on June 3) and attendance on the closing date of the program (July 25) is mandatory for all participants.

For students from outside the greater New Orleans area, we will provide on-campus housing. Depending on funding available, we may be able to provide some limited assistance for travel and there may also be support for a meal plan.
