The Acoustical Society of America (ASA) will be running a 12-week PAID summer undergraduate research program for students interested in the area of Acoustics. This intensive summer program in acoustics is designed for under represented undergraduate students from across the country.
This program will emphasize training, mentoring, research, and preparing students for graduate studies & careers in acoustics.
To be considered for the SURIEA Program, all applicants must complete the full SURIEA Application.
ELIGIBILITY
Currently enrolled as an undergraduate student in a 2- or 4-year institution, including community and tribal colleges.
Applicant’s race/ethnicity should be one of the following underrepresented groups: Black/African American, Native American, Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander, Alaska Native, Hispanic or Latino/a.
At least 18 years old at the start of the program.
Interested in acoustics.
U.S. citizenship may be required for some positions and all candidates must be eligible to work in the U.S. without restriction.
Vaccinations against COVID-19 are required. You will be asked to verify that you have been vaccinated or will be vaccinated by the start of the program.
PROGRAM BENEFITS
A take-home stipend of $5000.
A housing stipend up to $3300.
In-person acoustic fundamentals short course in Chicago, IL, June 7-12, 2024.
In-person experience, working closely with a mentor in acoustics.
Virtual networking and professional development.
TIME COMMITMENT
Approximately 30-40 hours per week between May 27 – Aug 16 2024. The final week will have only virtual meetings.
Weekly cohort meetings conducted virtually during the summer. Assistance with remote connection can be provided if needed.
Participate in an upcoming ASA meeting. Registration fees waived by the SURIEA program and up to $600 in travel funds provided.
Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis beginning Jan 5, 2024. Notifications will be sent by February 2024.
